The UNO Mavericks are the sports teams of the University of Nebraska at Omaha. They participate in the NCAA's Division II and in the North Central Conference, except in ice hockey. The hockey program competes in Division I as a member of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The men's ice hockey program reached the NCAA post-season tournament in the 2005-2006 season. The women's soccer and softball teams have won the NCAA's Division II's national championships. Lead by a stellar crew of seasoned veterans, the men's basketball team won back to back conference titles in 2003 & 2004 snapping a 20-year drought from this conference title stage. Along with the Mavericks Men's Wrestling team who were three time national champions from 2004-2006
The University of Nebraska-Omaha is involved in the North Central Conference for all athletic teams. The nickname of the university is the Mavericks. The school's official colors are crimson and black.
UNO will join the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association on July 1, 2008. The conference will be home to 12 of UNO's 15 teams. The ice hockey team will remain a member of the CCHA. Men's Wrestling and Women's Swimming and Diving haven't had plans announced for their conference affiliations, as the MIAA does not sponsor championships for those sports. Men's Tennis will be added in 2009
