The Unknown Historian is, indeed, a historian, and does, indeed, prefer to remain unknown, not because s/he is ashamed of using his real name, but rather because Wikipedia is somewhat frowned upon among academic historians. The Unknown Historian considers this attitude relatively silly and believes that instead of bemoaning the mistakes, inconsistencies, and biases Wikipedia may convey to the students of said academic historians (who are, consequently, often not allowed to use Wikipedia), historians should actively engage with Wikipedia and "fix" perceived or real errors. The Unknown Historian, however, also knows that his/her colleagues would not consider his/her participation appropriate and therefore prefers to remain anonymous.
