[edit] Ambiguous link

Your recent edit to Madurai Veeran (film) included one or more links to the page Tamil, which is a disambiguation page. This type of page is intended to direct users to more specific topics. Ordinarily we try to avoid creating links to disambiguation pages, since it is preferable to link directly to the specific topic relevant to the context. You can help Wikipedia by revising the links you added to Madurai Veeran (film) to refer directly to the most relevant topic. [edit] Sivaji: The Boss

Although I don't normally review or help other articles, I will give you some pointers to get it to GA status.

  • As it is a premature film, it can't be nominated. Nominate it again about 3 months after its release (about August)(you might want it to go to GA now, but be patient.
  • In my opinion, for a film that hasn't been released, the article is too long. 72000kb, considering you have to add a plot section, a release and response + dvd sections, it'll be too long.
    • Try trimming down the section "Soundtrack" into about three paragraphs. It already has a main article which all that information should be there. (1 para on production, 1 para on unoffical to official versions and 1 para on release and response)
  • You have extra spacing between the two paragraphs in the LEAD, this should be just one line.
    • For an article this size, the lead should be longer, see WP:LEAD
  • You have a casting section, but you might want to add a cast list (similar to Casino Royale (2006 film) or Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith). You then might want to trim the Casting section to only main actors/actresses
  • Remove the wikinews box in the Publicity and Release section, (either remove it or put it down with external links
  • In the references section there is a link at the top, remove it or put it in external links.
  • In the opening infobox, you don't need the release of the soundtrack in the released part.
  • It is cited but you may have cited incorrectly. (I havent checked it)
    • For news articles use {{cite news}}
    • For web pages with info use {{cite web}}
      • I'm not going to check that but it seems all the references are all the same.
        • Reference One is a prime example, to use {{cite news}} over {{cite web}}
  • In my opinion you should have the article copy edited, (this is a check for spelling, updating prose etc.). Some of the prose on the article is not good (eg. After the release of the surprise hit, Kadhalan in 1994, directed by Shankar he answered when interviewed by Sun TV,[4] that his official aim was to direct South India's two major actors, Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth. (doesn't really make sense)).
  • The category's need to be sorted aphebettically (numbers then letters)(ignore automated categorys eg. Upcoming films)

[edit] Rajinikanth's political thoughts...

I've seen the trailer over 100 times now, and no I'm not crazy. He says that he won't leave until he does something good for his people. He wants to turn Tamil Nadu into America (like in Bailekka where it says "Annan vanda Tamil Nadu America"). I really think and HOPE that this means that the thailavar is thinking of going to politics. He is doing what MGR did, MGR was 56 if i remember correctly when he acted the "high budget" film of his time called Ullagam Sutrum Valleban where he when to "exotic" places such as Japan and China (which had never been done by Tamil cinema til then). Soon after this film he went into politics. Rajinikanth is 57 now (or will be this year), I think he might be going down that route too. I can't wait to see the film, I just want to know if the thalaivar is the next CM. It is perfect timing, as there is a media war within the Karananadi family, and AVM poured petrol on the flames by selling Sivaji TV rights not to Sun TV but to Karunanidi's other wife's children. Also since he has got in a way "Karunanidi's support", he no longer has the political problems that he faced in Baba due to Karunanidi. Also I feel Rajinikanth has tackled all sides of opposition since he even talks about the Cauvery River in the soundtrack, and days before the release of the soundtrack Simbu's father was screaming about Rajini forgetting it. ~~ AVTN T CV A 21:59, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] I have 2 exams on the morning of the first show and 7 exams on the week after!

Exams aren't an excuse. Go see it on the first day. The crowd will be AMAZING. I've been looking at the Rajinifans Yahoo group and all the stills in India. So far all the tickets up to the 23 are booked in Chennai, the 15th to 17th tickets were sold within seconds of the ticket office opening. US Sivaji tickets are also sold out for the first weekend. North England tickets are sold out until Tuesday, they are opening up multiple screens to allow more tickets to be sold. I would assume that is the same for London Cineworlds. This is a ONCE IN A LIFETIME opportunity.

~~ AVTN T CV A 19:19, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cineworld ilford ruined the movie!

The sound sucked. Only the front speakers were on and there was no bass.

But the movie was 10/10 nonetheless. I am going to watch it again in Harrow Safari or a different NON-cineworld cinema next week. Thalaivar is the best!

I got all my answers to what I should do from the film!

AVTN 14:02, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Sivaji: The Boss

Hi! Sorry if I offended you in anyway. However, I had noticed that the article was too voluminous. It contains too much of speculated, rumoured information. I was simply trying to go by the guidelines posted in the talk page of the article. I'm really sorry if any of my edits were out of place.

These were a few pointers that I was trying to focus on:

  • Copyediting, style and grammar - some of the sentences were overtly long and difficult to understand.
  • I created the listing for the cast since it was suggested on the talk page (I checked out the article for Casino Royale and tried to model it after that - but since I knew nothing about the roles played by the various actors, I assumed that if I made the simple list, then others could expand each actor's bit :) )
  • Reducing the soundtrack section to the suggested three paragraphs (wasn't able to complete this though :D )
  • Removing content which was irrelevant to the nature of the movie

From my point of view (and in my defense) I really was only trying to help reduce the size of the article. Maybe if we move all the rumours, speculation and other issues related to the movie to a separate article - that might help, then?

Once again I'm sincerely sorry. Just didn't realise that my edits were harmful. Please feel free to reply to me on my talk page. I will refrain from editing the Sivaji article page until we come to an agreement on the edits that I've done. --- aJCfreak yAk 17:58, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

PS: I'm actually gonna be logging out sometime soon. If necessary, I wouldn't mind discussing each paragraph with you and coming to a consensus - tomorrow.

Ummm. Was just going through the reverts that you've done and realised that you've not "blanket" reverted all my edits. Thanks. Secondly, just realised that I made my last edit AFTER all your reverts and your warning. This was a freak case cos I'd left the editing page open and had gone to get dinner, within which time you'd edited the article and left the message on my talk page. Please revert the last edit, if necessary. I'd be happier if we could discuss the changes required to cleanup the article across talk pages and reach a consensus to work together. Anyways, it's your call now. Happy wiki-ing, all the same! aJCfreak yAk 18:22, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
So sorry to bother you again, but I just thought I'd let you know that I'm trying to get the Image:73417053 9cf7fb3494 o.jpg image renamed and tagged with the appropriate license. aJCfreak yAk 18:45, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hi again

Since the Sivaji article is in my watchlist, I couldn't help but notice that all of the images in the article have been removed stating that they violate copyrights. I've already included the necessary fair-use tags and the sources to Image:2005112908090201.jpg and Image:Sivaji firstday.jpg.
If you could simply add the source (and change the fair-use template to the correct one, if necessary) to the following images, then we could re-include the images to the article. Else, the images will be deleted pretty soon.

  1. Image:Sivajimusicshop.jpg
  2. Image:Sivajibald.jpg
  3. Image:Rajinikanth_kamalhaasan.jpg
  4. Image:Sivaji-05.jpg

I could do it myself, but I do not know the source from where you/AVTN obtained the images.

If required, please check out copyright tags and the image use policy for complete information what tags to use and the like. Sure hope we can settle these images so that we could include them in the article again. -- aJCfreak yAk 07:20, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Regarding the recent edits to the article, I really feel that the editors are trying to add value to the article. If we look at the whole article from an objective POV, (and also considering that we want the article to get a GA rating, if not an FA in the not-too-distant future) some of their edits were necessary. The points that really stand out are:
  1. Reliable sources for references. According to WP guidelines, we can't use blogs and we definitely can't use YT videos. We need to work on that.
  2. Copyediting, style and grammar. Seriously, we need to majorly work on this bit - else the article will get only a B-rating when we nominate it for peer review.
  3. Lengthy. The article is too long. I know that we have a LOT of info about the movie that we could include in the article, but if we could tone it down to only what is necessary and keeping in tone with the movie, then I believe we could reduce the size. Also, we might discuss the possibility of splitting the whole thing into smaller articles.

Finally, I'm slightly confused by the two messages you left on my talk page (the second one replacing the first). You first mentioned that you're not happy with what I did with the photos. Please lemme know what exactly I did wrong. All I remember is trying to re-align the pictures in the article according to Wikipedia's Image usage guidelines. I also renamed a photo and tagged it with the appropriate licensing/sourcing information.
You've then replaced that message saying we need to stop them. Does this mean that I can be involved with the Sivaji project again? Please let me know. I won't touch the page until you're completely happy with my intentions/edits/explanations. Till then, happy Wiki-ing! aJCfreak yAk 11:47, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sivaji: The Boss

I don't believe there were mass changes being made to the page. Please read WP:OWN. People are going to be edit the article, so your best bet is to discuss on the talk page if you think someone is making an incorrect edit. Please don't just revert everyone's additions, and then re-insert them manually, since that is just wasting time. Also, it seems like you added back all the changes I had initially made to the article. Thanks, and keep up the good work on the article. Nishkid64 (talk) 15:24, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Please discuss the referencing situation at Talk:Sivaji: The Boss#Fight over references. Thanks, Nishkid64 (talk) 23:21, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Plot

I think we should wait since many indians view the article and many haven't seen the film yet in Tamil Nadu. I am part of the Rajini e-fans association and they have put a rule on thier group not to talk about the plot until 1 week after the release. So I think we should wait til thursday. Besides I am seeing the film again next wednesday and the saturday after that. AVTN 08:59, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Well, it was fun. I'll tell you why one day (2008). I enjoyed making a massive amount of edits and helping the community and all. AVTN 14:59, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

I probably won't use wikipedia to edit pages after July 2007. Don't worry I will come to talk to you and stuff. I am getting a name change in preparation for my Right to Vanish! AVTN 15:11, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

See [3]. It's the wrong place, and I don't think it's ready yet. The reason why it failed last time was because it is unstable. It still is, and we also need to work on the plot before submitting a GAC. Nishkid64 (talk) 17:45, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
