University of applied sciences

University of Applied Sciences is a university type, originated in the German higher educational system. It refers to:
- Fachhochschule, a German or Austrian institution of academic higher education, including undergraduate and postgraduate education. More recently also shorter named Hochschule.
- Fachhochschule or Haute École Spécialisée, as above, in Switzerland.
- Ammattikorkeakoulu, a Finnish institution of higher education.
- The usual French term is École Supérieure.
