University of Leeds Conference Auditorium

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The University of Leeds Conference Auditorium was once the original West Yorkshire Playhouse. It was refurbished in 2003 to accommodate over 800 individuals at any given time, making it the largest capacity facility on the University campus.[1] The two modernised lecture theatres make the Conference Auditorium one of the few high-profile buildings on campus.

In the summer of 2007, Conference Auditorium 1 (CALT 1) and Conference Auditorium 2 (CALT 2) underwent small refurbishment: Two new digital projectors were installed in each auditorium. The new units were sited at the back of the rooms secured away in newly constructed cabinets. The removal of the projectors from the original positions at the mid-point of both auditoriums allowed extra seating.

At the same time, a small dis-used storage room adjacent to the foyer opposite the 'Enquiries' desk was converted into a seminar room to seat 15 individuals.

[edit] Misc.

The Conference Auditorium still displays the old University of Leeds logo.

Flooding began to be an issue in recent times with run-off flowing down the car park and penetrating up to 3 metres inside the building leaving a large area near the main entrance in several inches of water. In late 2007, new drains were implemented to combat the problem.
