The Karol Adamiecki University of Economics in Katowice (Poland), is the only state university specializing in Economics and Business studies in the region. It has an annual enrollment about 13,500 students, and has 480 teachers. It was founded in 1937 as the College of Social and Economic Sciences, closing because of World War II in 1939 and re-opening in 1945. In 1950 it became the State College of Economic Administration, and in 1972 the name of Karol Adamiecki was added. In 1974 it became a university, with its present name.
