The U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC or MRMC) is the U.S. Army’s medical materiel development command and its lead agency for medical R&D and acquisition; medical IM and IT; medical logistics management; and health facility planning. Headquartered at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland, MRMC is a subordinate unit of the U.S. Army Medical Command. It is commanded by a major general.

Military medical information and products are developed by the USAMRMC to protect and sustain the health and safety of U.S. and allied forces through deployment and combat.

USAMRMC oversees and supports 14 laboratories and organizations located throughout the United States.

Six of the USAMRMC medical laboratories and institutes perform the core science and technology research to develop solutions medical problems encountered by U.S. service members on the battlefield. These centers specialize in various areas of biomedical research, including infectious diseases, combat casualty care, operational medicine, and defenses against chemical and biological warfare. A large extramural research program and numerous cooperative research and development agreements provide the command with additional capabilities by partnering with leading biomedical and academic organizations in the civilian sector.

Eight USAMRMC supporting organizations focus on other command requirements such as medical materiel development and logistics, facilities, IM/IT, and congressional special interest (CSI) programs, to embody a comprehensive concept of medical materiel acquisition.

Approximately 5,200 military, civilian, and contractor personnel are assigned to support the command headquarters and subordinate units. Officers, enlisted soldiers, and civilians provide subject matter expertise in medical, scientific, and technical areas throughout the command.
