United National Football League
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The United National Football League (UNFL) is an independent football league designed to develop the best talent, specifically for the National Football League (NFL). The UNFL was developed in 2007, and is currently based out of New Haven, CT. The structure of the league resembles the National Football League by acquiring the same professional rules for the field, and standards for athletes and owners. The league currently consists of 22 teams, with two of those teams having owners at this time. The 22 teams are strategically located all over the United States basing their selection of cities on media markets and high football demographics.
The regular and inaugural season has been set for 2009, playing from January to March with the playoffs and championship being held in April (before the NFL draft). The season has been scheduled during this time to give the UNFL's players optimal exposure to NFL scouts, and in an ideal time to be drafted by the NFL. There will be playoff games and a championship game. Each division winner gets in the playoffs, and the two teams with the best record get a bye in the first round of the playoffs.
[edit] League Mission
The UNFL's goal is to develop and create professional opportunities for college athletes. The league evaluates its players based on their football abilities and giving the opportunity to showcase their skills against the best rising talent in the county. With the belief that the system used to evaluate talent across the county, the UNFL offers the chance for young talent everywhere to be evaluated fairly and provided a legitimate opportunity at professional football. The UNFL's aspires to expand the talent pool of quality players, and enhance the selection process by providing top athletes for professional teams.
The most important aspect to the UNFL, is that it is specifically geared towards supporting the NFL and assisting them in supplying quality talent. The atmosphere of the UNFL is designed to increase the prosperity of the National Football League as well as the player.
[edit] Player Selection
Player selection drives the UNFL and sends out information about evaluation camps to college and university coaches all over the United States, and video tape of potential players must be provided. There will be evaluation camps in the North, South, East, West, and Central regions of the country to optimize the talent pool.
