[edit] History
The United Lutheran Mission Association was established at a meeting in Chicago on July 16, 2005. There, representatives of two formerly LCMS congregations: Pilgrim Lutheran Church of Decatur, Illinois, and Redeemer Lutheran Church of St. Clair Shores, Michigan began work on establishing confessional Lutheran mission congregations in the United States. Since that beginning, three mission congregations are now established with more under consideration (Spring, 2008). The first is Sola Scriptura of Milwaukee, Wisconsin whose first service was November 20, 2005. The second, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church had their first service on July 1, 2007 in Escanaba, Michigan. The third is Agnus Dei Lutheran Church in the Spotsylvania County area of Virginia which held their first service April 20, 2008.
[edit] Structure
This group rather than having a clergy-led ecclesiastical structure, has adopted a lay-led distributed model with each church being independent and sending representatives to a semi-annual commission meeting. There is no central office or centralized organizational structure other than the individual representatives that meet in January and July of each year.
