The United Arab States (UAS) was a short-lived confederation of Egypt, Syria and North Yemen between 1958 and 1961.

The United Arab Republic was a sovereign state formed by a union between Egypt and Syria in 1958. The Mutawakkilite Kingdom of Yemen (North Yemen), which already had signed a defense pact with Egypt, joined the new state in 1958 in a loose confederation called the United Arab States. Neither the union, nor the confederation, fulfilled their role as vehicles of pan-Arab nationalism, and they were dissolved in 1961.
