Union Square Café is an award-winning restaurant in New York City, owned by Danny Meyer, with chef Michael Romano. Opened in October, 1985, it features American cuisine with Italian influences. Union Square Cafe has won multiple awards since its inception, and is one of the most popular restaurants in New York City[1], including the ranking of "Favorite New York Restaurant" in the Zagat Survey in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, and 2008. Notably, the restaurant did not receive a Michelin star, leading to concerns that the guide might be biased towards French cuisine or restaurants that "emphasize formality and presentation"[2].
