Union Bank of Switzerland

Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS) was located in Switzerland. It merged with Swiss Bank Corporation in 1998, to become UBS AG.

The company was formed in 1912 when the Bank in Winterhur (founded in 1862) merged with Toggenburger Bank (founded in 1863). The bank then continued to grow through acquisitions, including Aargauische Kreditanstalt in 1919, Eidegenössiche Bank in 1945, Interhandel Basel in 1967, Phillips & Drew London in 1986, and Schröder Münchmeyer Hengst & Co in 1997.

The official company name in various languages was: German: Schweizerische Bankgesellschaft (SBG), Italian: Unione di Banche Svizzere (UBS), French: Union de Banques Suisses (UBS), Spanish: Unión de Bancos Suizos (UBS), Japanese: Swiss Union Ginko (UBS), Arabic: Bank Al Ittihad Al Swissri (UBS), Portuguese: União de Bancos Suiços (UBS), Chinese: Ruishi Lianhe Yinhang (UBS), Vietnamese: Suisz Luenhop Nganhong (UBS).
