Template talk:Units
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The "next units" section seems to me to be of low utility. Almost all SI prefix+units are redirected to the base unit, except in a few cases (e.g. gram & kilogram, metre & kilometre). --Bob Mellish 19:04, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
- This was part of my slow effort to recreate the prefixed unit pages. See Talk:Units of measurement/Format of articles about units#Digging up dirt on prefix unit pages. I understand that the 'next unit' pages do not currently exist, but if there is consensus to recreate them, and my proposed template is used, the 'next unit' section would then be of higher utility, perhaps?--Andrew c 19:12, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

- Not much utility at all when you include "decigrams" and "dekagrams". The normal progression is milligrams, micrograms, etc. going down and kilograms, megagrams (not often enough called by that name), etc. going up.
-
- Another problem is that units such as the gram are part of several different systems; and the base units are different in some of those systems.

- It's too big, not very useful, and not necessary. Gene Nygaard 00:37, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

- I completely disagree. I have come upon this discussion, as someone who has never used the Metrics system (I'm an American, of course!), and was looking for the progression of metric units from Meter -> Kilometer. I find the entire set of metric articles to be a complete and unqualified mess. There's no standarization, and no easy way to move between the measurements easily. I'd like to find a way to fix that. --Wolf530 05:04, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Usage
This template badly needs a usage section with available unit abbreviations, and examples. Dhaluza 10:03, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] What the heck is this article trying to say?
I think I agree with the previous comment—PaulTanenbaum 02:52, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
