[edit] Citation
This page is completely illegitimate if it isn't cited! Please, if you are contributing, cite something! As it is, this page contains some good info that I'd like to use in a research project, but none of it is validated, save one reference on the President.--Puck85 22:37, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] US Centrism
I detect a rather US-centric perspective in this article. For instance:
- The U.S. has been a member since the UN was founded
and
- However, beginning in 1992, the U.S. and other nations began an effort to make ECOSOC more relevant by strengthening its policy responsibilities in economic, social, and related fields, particularly in furthering development objectives.
Someone hasn't been copying PR from the State Department website have they?
- (Apparently. It's a straight cut-n-paste from a state department dispatch with minor wikification. Nobody's seen fit to touch it at least since February, though... --Brion)
The fact that the US has been a member of ECOSOC since its founding is not in and of itself relevant--I'm sure several other countries have as well. (I believe there is a convention that all permanent Security Council members are elected members of ECOSOC.) Similarly, if several nations were behind the reforms, why single the US out? (unless it made an overwhelming contribution). Finally, if this does come from a US source, as I suspect it does, what the US describes as "reforms" may well be seen in a negative light by other nations--which would make this article non-NPOV. - SJK
