[edit] Taiwan
This map includes Taiwan but the UN doesn't recognize Taiwan. The Honorable Kermanshahi 15:19, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
- Actually the UN does recognize Taiwan, just not as a sovereign state, but rather a territory of the PRC.--Lairor 02:34, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
Still it isn't a member so it should not be included. The Honorable Kermanshahi 17:49, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- Well, for example, Texas isn't a member of the UN so should it be taken out too?--Lairor 10:50, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
It isn't an indipendent nation, Taiwan is. Otherwise you could include everythin. You could include the Western Sahara as a part of Morocco and you could include the Palestinian terretories as a part of Israel. The Honorable Kermanshahi 20:33, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- Taiwan isn't considered an independent nation by the UN. Western Sahara and the Palestinian territories are considered to be occupied territories whose sovereignty is disputed. Like it or not, Taiwan is considered to be a possession of the PRC. Don't let your personal views on Taiwanese independence get in the way of how the UN itself views it.--Lairor 23:43, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
I don't have any personal views on the independece of Taiwan, I don't have personal views on the indipendence of the Western Sahara either though I do have about the Palestinian-Israeli problem. I'm no supporter of the Republic of China but the fact is that the state is independent and it is more indipendent than the other 2. While the West Bank and the Western are occupied Taiwan is not and it is fully under controll of the Republic of China. So it actually is a nation and it isn't a member. The Honorable Kermanshahi 12:35, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
-
- It doesn't matter if the Republic of China is the most independent state in the world, the United Nations considers the island of Taiwan to be a possession of the PRC. In fact, even if the ROC had diplomatic relations with every single country in the world and they all considered it to be an independent state it still wouldn't matter. The only thing that matters is how the United Nations itself views the island of Taiwan. And the UN views it as a possession of People's Republic of China which is a member of the UN and therefore Taiwan is considered to be represented in the UN.--Lairor 11:46, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
But it still is not a member and it actually is an indipendent state. The Honorable Kermanshahi 08:53, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
