The Siberian Elm Ulmus pumila cultivar 'Chinkota' [1] is from a seed-produced line of extremely cold-hardy trees raised in the USA. The tree was developed from seed of the cultivar 'Dropmore' by the South Dakota State University, from which it is distinguished by its lower branching habit and earlier dormancy [2]. The cultivar is not known to have been introduced to Europe or Australasia.
