The English Elm Ulmus procera cultivar 'Argenteo-Variegata' is believed to have originated in England in 1677. Described by Weston in Bot. Univ. 1 : 314 1770 (as U. campestris argenteo-var.) as having leaves striped and spotted with white. Also mentioned much later by Krüssmann in Parey's Blumengartn. ed. 2, 1: 519, 1958 [1].
