Description
English: Ugolino. The subject is drawn from Dante's Inferno (canto XXXIII): Ugolino della Gherardesca has been imprisoned for treachery and starves to death, along with his two sons and two grandsons. Before dying, Ugolino's children beg him to eat their bodies. Plaster with patina, 1862?
Français : Ugolin par Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux (1867-1869). Le sujet est tiré de l'Enfer de Dante (chant XXXIII): Ugolino della Gherardesca est emprisonné avec ses deux fils et ses deux petit-fils, et condamné à mourir de faim. Avant de périr, les enfants d'Ugolin le supplient de manger leurs cadavres. Plâtre patiné, 1862 (?).
