Uganda Waragi is a brand of waragi and the leading branded distilled beverage in Uganda. It is produced and marketed by East African Breweries Limited.
Uganda Waragi is made from millet, and triple distilled. It is known in Uganda as "The Spirit of Uganda," or simply UG. The bottle label is typically gold coloured. It is available in four formats: 750, 350, 200, or 60 milliliters. It's alcoholic content is 40% alcohol by volume. The main markets include other African countries such as Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan.
[edit] History
In 1965, "The Enguli Act" decreed that distillation would only be legal under license, and distillers should sell to the government run Uganda Distilleries Ltd – which produced a branded bottled product, marketed under the name Uganda Waragi.
[edit] Recommendations
The producers of Waragi recommend five ways to drink their product: on ice, in cola, with lime, with ginger ale, or with tonic.
