Udo von Woyrsch

Udo Von Woyrsch (18951983) was the SS and Police Leader in Elbe, in 1934 Von Woyrsch participated in the Night of the Long Knives, Von Woyrsch order the execution of his SS rival Emil Sembach.

He commanded Einsatz Gruppen in Poland in 1939, whose brutal actions attracted criticism from army generals. He had a close friendship with Himmler and Heydrich. Arrested after the war, he was not tried due to ill health.

Obergruppenfuhrer Woyrsch commanded the Einsatzgruppen "Special Purpose Operational Group" specifically charged with, and adept at, terrorizing and murdering the Jewish population of Poland. The brutality of this Einsatzgruppen was such that Wehrmacht officers interceded with the Gestapo to have it withdrawn.
