UCSB Multicultural Center
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The UCSB Multicultural Center (MCC) was formed in 1987 by colored people[1], as a haven from racism. Eventually, the MCC broadened its mission statement to include combating racism, sexism, and heterosexism[1].
Today, the MCC offers prejudice-combating events, such as lectures, panel discussions, films and videos, musicals, dance, and dramatic performances, and poetry readings, all to the general public[1]. Ninety of these events occur each year, to promote cultural awareness and understanding.
Over seventy organizations are affiliated with the Multicultural Center[2].
The MCC consists of several facilities available to all organizations associated with it, as well as other campus organizations and departments. These include a lounge/gallery, theater, meeting rooms, and kitchen.
