The current University of California, Santa Cruz identity mark (logo). This is an 'identity mark', not asserted as the official masthead or logo.

The logo cannot be reconstructed with any fonts or drawings. Only official versions may ever be used as the official logo.

This file was created by extracting the official version, available at Print Identity for public use and download. The official print and web display color is black (or UCSC colors).

This seal is not free. The university sets strict guidelines on its seal, and covering its Fair Use in Wikipedia's article on UCSC is this rationale.

This logo qualifies as fair use under Wikipedia's copyright guidelines on logos as follows:

• Under United States law, this logo, a trademark of UCSC, may be used on other sites for purposes of criticism and commentary. The Wikipedia article serves to do just that. Furthermore, the trademark may not be used in an artistic or editorial setting. Its presence in the infobox in the UCSC article is neither artistic or editorial.
• There is no free equivalent, because one cannot be produced. The only allowable logograph is this logo, and any reproduction, digital or otherwise does not represent the university.
• In no way does this inhibit trademark policies set forth by UCSC. It cannot and will not be used to sell merchandise or propagate advertisement.
• This is used once in one Wikipedia article. It is the highest resolution of the official logo available to the public. It is the only university logo published in UCSC media.
