Uafato
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Uafato is a small village on the Samoan island of Upolu. It is located on the northeast coast of the island and is accessed by a narrow road leading from Fagaloa Bay.
It is a centre for traditional woodcarving and visitors can watch carvers making kava bowls and other products. Apart from the use of chain saws to cut the rough forms and the replacement of stone blades with steel, techniques are much the same as they were prior to western contact.
Although Uafato can be visited as part of a day trip from Apia, there are now beach huts (fale) where visitors may stay overnight or use them while swimming.
