Tyushtya (IV century AD), also known as Tyushtya the Great was the legendary leader of Mokshan and Erzyan clans alliance and the war lord of allied army. During his rule Great Mordvinia stretched from Volga to Dnieper and from the Oka to the Black Sea. This period is usually called the Golden Age. He plays major roles in old Mokshan songs and epic Mastorava.

[edit] Fictional representations

  • In the epic Mastorava Tyushtya is portrayed as a peasant elected by people to be the king.
  • In old Mokshan legends he appears to be a demigod, son of Thundere God and mortal girl Litova changing his age every month (young boy in new moon, man of mature age in full moon and old man in waining moon).
