[edit] History
Tyringham Cobble was likely formed some 500 million years ago when a portion of a nearby mountain collapsed and "flipped". This origination theory was developed when, in 1895, a geologist studying the cobble discovered that the rock strata on the top of the cobble was older than the strata on the bottom. [1]
