Talk:Typo demon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I was a little creeped out to stumble upon a wikipedia entry for this phrase while using Trillian, because I may be the one who originally coined it. (But if anybody can mention an earlier time of usage, I'd be glad to hear it. Less scary... Heh.)

It was actually back in the mid-90's, before 1337 became common, correct spelling and punctuation were the norm, and I was still on a text terminal via a 2400 baud modem. On the IRC network, Undernet, was a little fan chat room called #ReBoot, which was, oddly enough, where fans of the show ReBoot hung out. But it was also host to a bunch of Sailor Moon fans. Jokes involving both shows at once were common. I remember making continuous typos on accident one night. Maybe I was typing too fast or something, but I kept screwing up the same word in several attempts to correct myself. So I said "The typo demon made me do it."

Of course, a fandom involving a TV show about people inside a computer battling video games is guaranteed to attract gamers and geeks. This should give you some insight on where the phrase MIGHT have come from. But then again, it may have evolved elsewhere. I will say that I'd never heard the phrase used elsewhere before coming up with it.
