[edit] Image:Euphoniumrange.JPG

Hi - I see you recently created the useful playing range image for the euphonium article. I have two comments regarding this, but am unable to perform the edits myself as I do not have Finale:

  • The image is a JPG, and would be better as a PNG (like most other instrument range images) to avoid the JPG compression artefacts
  • The top of the range is in tenor clef. The text in the article currently refers to the top of the range as "... below the bass clef ... to ... above [the bass clef]...", so no mention of tenor clef. Would it be better to illustrate the top of the range also in bass clef? Mcpgv 22:31, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:BellRehearsal.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[1][2]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. Android Mouse Bot 2 17:56, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Article move from "Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Big Band" to "Vanguard Jazz Orchestra"

Hi. I placed the following note in the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra discussion page.
I was surprised to see this page moved to a different title. I would recommend the article be returned to its original title. According to the "What links here" listing, there are currently around 20 wiki articles that reference the "Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Big Band" directly and only a few (~3) that seem to reference the "Vanguard Jazz Orchestra" uniquely (i.e. only a few that reference the orchestra as it exists post Jones/Lewis). This seems to support the assumption that the "Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Big Band" (and/or "...Orchestra") is the more useful and relevant article title. These ~20 references are specifically to the band as it existed during the period with Thad Jones and Mel Lewis as co-leaders and not to the later VJO incarnation. I think the previous arrangement made more sense ("Vanguard Jazz Orchestra" redirects to "Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Big Band"). One could always start a new article for the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra if desired. Pugetbill 14:19, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
