Twister (limber pine)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Twister is the name given to an ancient Limber pine by Bryan P. Tikalsky, a graduate student from Brigham Young University and his geography professor, Matthew F. Bekker. Twister, located in Utah near Alta, first sprouted in 303 AD, which makes this tree 1704 years old as of 2007. The name is based on the tree's appearance, caused by centuries of buffeting by the powerful winds of the Wasatch front. Tikalsky and Bekker hope to derive a climatological record from Twister's rings.
