Talk:TVX Broadcast Group
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I have changed the title of this entry from "TVX Broadcasting" to "TVX Broadcast Group", which was the company's official name. Rollosmokes 04:01, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
Currently, the legal successor to the TVX Broadcast Group is the CBS Televison Stations Group. Shouldn't we expand this article and move it to CBS Television Stations Group? CoolKatt number 99999 03:38, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
- IMO, in a word: NO. Rollosmokes 03:47, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
- Then how about a seperate CBSTSG article, featuring PSG/Viacom Television Stations Group History as well? CoolKatt number 99999 04:23, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
- User:CoolKatt number 99999/Sandbox 7: Well, what do you think? Should I copy this to the main TVX Broadcast Group article and move it to CBS Television Stations Group? Vote here. CoolKatt number 99999 05:16, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] A major change in this article
I have removed WEMT, WSYT, and WDKY-TV from the text and the chart. Here are my reasons for doing so:
During 1987-89, when TVX was selling off stations to satisfy its debt, the FCC limit on stations per group owner was twelve. Sans these three stations, and prior to both the TVX sale and the restructuring into Great American Broadcasting, Taft's television group was as follows:
- WTAF-TV Philadelphia
- WDCA-TV Washington
- WCIX Miami
- KTXA Fort Worth/Dallas
- KTXH Houston
- WKRC-TV Cincinnati
- WTVN-TV Columbus, Ohio
- WDAF-TV Kansas City, Missouri
- WGHP High Point/Greensboro/Winston-Salem
- WTSP St. Petersburg/Tampa
- KTSP-TV Phoenix
- WBRC-TV Birmingham
That's twelve stations right there. There is no way Taft could have owned fifteen stations in 1987. The FCC wouldn't raise the limit on TV station ownership again -- to 14 per group -- for a few years. Also, I have seen NO EVIDENCE -- in either back issues of Broadcasting magazine (which was considered to be the industry's magazine of record) or anyplace else stating that the Taft Television and Radio Co. owned these three small stations. TVX may have before the Taft sale, but not after.
Similar changes should be made within the Taft Broadcasting article. Rollosmokes 05:52, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Proposed merger
I suggest that Paramount Stations Group be merged into this article, which should be moved to CBS Television Stations Group and include more info on PSG and the Viacom Television Stations Group eras, in addtion to CBSTSG info. CoolKatt number 99999 02:13, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
See this page for a preview of what I envision: User:CoolKatt number 99999/Sandbox 7. CoolKatt number 99999 02:14, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- Strongly oppose! Another one of this user's proposed needless mergers! Kramden4700 14:57, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- Comment: Basically, TVX, PSG, VTSG, and CBSTSG are the same company with different names. CoolKatt number 99999 04:04, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- They all are DIFFERENT COMPANIES, with DIFFERENT NAMES, and DIFFERENT OWNERSHIPS. The stations may be the same for the most part, but that's all they have in common. No merge. Rollosmokes 08:05, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
