[edit] TVPI and TVVI formats differ slightly
The article states that the TVPI and TVVI formats are identical in format, but there is one important difference: the TVPI files generated by TitanTV contain <tv-program-info version="1.0"> and </tv-program-info>, while the TVVI files contain <tv-viewer-info version="1.0"> and </tv-viewer-info>.
There is at least one program (ATI MMC 9.16 for HDTV Wonder) which uses this information to decide whether to record or not, and ignores the actual file name extension.
Also, I have noticed that MMC 9.16 does not work with TitanTV's "Watch Now" function. The event is scheduled, but since the program start is already past, the event shows as "expired" and the channel is not switched. One workaround would be to generate the TVVI file with the current time as the start time - or a minute later to allow for latency or clock skew.
