[edit] Plot

The series is about a teenager named Brett Matthews, who swerves off a road during a thunderstorm and crashes into a secret government laboratory. There, he and his red sports car are accidentally exposed to a molecular beam invented by Dr. Chase and the two become fused together. As a result, Brett has the ability to morph into the car when exposed to extreme heat, and reverts back into his human form when exposed to extreme cold. With this new super hero power, Brett and his friends (who call him "TT") go on crime fighting adventures and thwart evildoers. As a subplot, Brett constantly searches for a way to return back to normal with the help of the scientists responsible for this.

A reoccurring villain is the mysterious, unseen "Dark Rider", who drives a monster truck and seeks to capture TT to find the secret behind his abilities.

[edit] Production

The show was produced by Ruby-Spears Productions. It was broadcast during the growing popularity of the Knight Rider television series and mirrors much of it, even down to very similar sounding theme music. The car that Brett turns into looks like an amalgam of a Chevrolet Camaro, and its sister car the Pontiac Trans Am that Knight Rider's KITT is modeled after.

[edit] Parodies

Turbo Teen was recently parodied in the Robot Chicken episode "Rabbits on a Roller Coaster" with Brett Matthews voiced by Seth Green, Tom Root as Alex, while Patti was voiced by Chad Morgan. A drunken Brett is slapped by a woman he was hitting on, then falls and passes out under a street lamp where he turns into Turbo Teen. Alex and Patti have sex in him, then two drunk teens steal him and crash him into a lamp post and vomit all over him. Next, a homeless guy defecates on him, two vandals smash him up with pipes, parts are stolen off him, and he is towed away to a junkyard to be crushed in a compactor. Before getting crushed, Brett turns back into his human form, however, due to all the damage to the car, his eyes, hands, and feet are gone. A mangled and mutilated Brett lies in the compactor screaming in pain before he is crushed to death. A card saying "Don't Drink and Drive" is then shown.
