[edit] Poverty and National Parks?

Quote from article: "Tulare County bears the unfortunate distinction of being the one of the most impoverished counties in California, despite its proximity to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks."

I don't think that being close to a National Park would by itself make a place less impoverished. They are not generally high-income generating, and, since most National Parks are located in remote rural areas, I would expect that the opposite would be true, that they would be expected to have lower incomes.
