[edit] 6 lanes

I bet the bypass will need 6 lanes, not 4 lanes.

[edit] Opening of bypass

When the bypass will be completed in June 2008. The number of vehicles is expected to be 60,000 VPD (vehicles per day), so it whould need to be 6 lanes (3 in each direction)!!!!!

The "traffic lane rate" is:

  • 1,000 VPD to 3,999 VPD - Means you just require 1 lane in each direction (Silver City Highway for example).
  • 4,000 VPD - Means you need overtaking lanes at regular intervals (Great Western Highway west of Katoomba, is an example).
  • 10,000 VPD - Means you need a dual carriageway and 2 lanes minimum in each direction (the Pacific Highway another example).
  • 50,000 VPD - Means you need a minimum of 3 lanes in each direction (the F3 freeway for example).
  • 80,000 VPD - Means you need a minimum of 4 lanes in each direction (Pacific motorway north of Nerang, for example).
  • 120,000 VPD - Means you need a minimum of 5 lanes in each direction (I429 in New York, for example).
  • 150,000+ VPD - Means you need a minimum of 6 lanes in each direction (I45 in New Jersey, for example).

[edit] Removed text

I removed the following sentence: " Despite the 3 governments involved all stating a commitment to cyclists in their transport plans there will be no access for pedestrians and cyclists." This makes no sense at all as this is a highway and therefore no pedestrians or cyclists are allowed on it anyway, the sentence seems to be an attack on the government for not allowing pedestrians to walk on a highway! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.167.213.128 (talk) 11:08, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
