America’s Army: True Soldiers is a first person shooter video game developed by Red Storm Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. It was released on November 17, 2007.

It uses the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 game engine. It will make use of new self shadowing and will focus more on multiplayer.

In November 2007, A multiplayer demonstration was launched for the Xbox 360 over the Xbox Live Marketplace. It has all of the weapons from the PC version (see: America's Army) and the gameplay is similar. Unlike previous games, every weapon is at the disposal of the player.

[edit] Gameplay

The gameplay is tactically oriented. The player can sprint, crouch, go prone, and sight down the gun. According to a preview of the game by IGN [1], players get an accuracy and damage resistance increase for sticking together with the rest of their fire squad. Additionally, you can only talk and hear players that are near you, the range you can be heard depends upon the volume of your voice, for example a teammate whispering to another right next to him will not be heard by an enemy close by, while if he shouts he will be heard. Team leaders can talk to each other by radio and can also call in artillery strikes. There are 5 classes: Rifleman, Grenadier, Sniper, Automatic Rifleman, and Squad Leader. Each class seems to have two usable weapons, one default and one unlockable. When players are knocked out, they will roll around on the ground bleeding out until they die. Teammates can heal you while you are bleeding out. Additionally, you can heal your own minor wounds with first aid packs. You gain honor points by doing good deeds in battle such as, healing teammates, dragging them out of fire, sharing ammo, and sacrificing your self to take out enemies. Honor points are used to rank up (see below section).

In the campaign and in multi-player the weapons available are the same. The player's choice of weapons consists of the M16A4 Assault Rifle, the M16A4 Assault Rifle with the M203 grenade launcher attachment, the M24 Sniper Weapon System, the M107 Semi-Automatic Sniper Rifle, the M4A1 Carbine, and the M249 SAW. Most of these weapons are customizable with an assortments of scopes, laser sights, and upgrades that can be unlocked as you progress through training and the campaign.

The gameplay is very much team oriented. Communication and co-operation between teammates play an important role in the game. Teams that are better able to work together have a significant advantage even over teams composed of better individually skilled players. Formations and tactics also play an important role in America's Army. Squads better able to work together are able to take this game to a much higher level by setting up ambushes, traps, or coordinated attacks and defense.

[edit] Training

Honor points are used to rank up a person's character. Additionally, players with the most honor points can opt to be assigned as team leader. This allows you to set waypoints, call in airstrikes, and directly communicate with other squad leaders. If a player gets enough honor points, they will receive tokens. The tokens can be distributed to players that you think did well. The tokens will give the receiver more honor points. Honors points can be used to increase the 3 core skills, Valor, Marksmanship, and Physical Training. An increase in Valor increases damage resistance and squad bonuses. By increasing Marksmanship, zooming abilities are also increased and gun drifting (caused by breathing and running) is reduced. Focusing on developing Physical Training allows the player to run farther and faster, increases healing time, and increases the amount of equipment you can carry.

[edit] Xbox Live

While playing online the player appears to them self as a U.S. soldier and the opponents appear as non-U.S. soldiers. This applies in both perspectives. When a person is shot they are kept on the ground and cannot be shot again unless they are healed by a teammate, as the game's aim is to portray a real war, and therefore a player must reside within the rules of engagement (ROE). The time a person will remain incapicited until respawning can be set by the host. Increments range from 15 seconds to a minute.

In multiplayer there are an assortment of game types. The player can play in squad vs squad engagements, games that place a squad versus AI opponents, or human led squads with AI teammates the engage each other. Objectives of these games vary, including eliminating the other team, reaching and securing an extraction point, defending objectives, or eliminating the enemy's and protecting your own VIP.

[edit] Customization

There are numerous faces and nicknames you can give your player. In addition, players can create clans that will be represented as army divisions (though real military divisions will be reserved for real soldiers in those divisions).

[edit] Missions

The campaign is a series of missions named Golden Lion in which you as the player engage enemy forces in various levels either in single player mode with AI teammates, or in online or local co-op with up to sixteen teameates.
