Troy is a city in Miami County, Ohio, United States. The population was 21,999 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Miami County[3]
Troy was one of the cities impacted by severe flooding in the Great Dayton Flood of 1913. [4]

Troy is located at (40.041621, -84.208627)[5].
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.8 square miles (25.3 km²), of which, 9.7 square miles (25.1 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km²) of it (0.72%) is water.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 21,999 people, 8,920 households, and 5,887 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,267.8 people per square mile (875.7/km²). There were 9,497 housing units at an average density of 979.0/sq mi (378.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 91.55% White, 4.78% Black, 0.21% Native American, 1.66% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.30% from other races, and 1.50% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.77% of the population.
There were 8,920 households out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.8% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.0% were non-families. 29.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.96.
In the city the population was spread out with 25.6% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 30.9% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 94.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.1 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $39,531, and the median income for a family was $46,889. Males had a median income of $35,819 versus $25,536 for females. The per capita income for the city was $19,892. About 6.4% of families and 8.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.8% of those under age 18 and 6.4% of those age 65 or over.

The Troy Ciy Police Department is located at 106 South Market Street of the troy square next to Troy City Hall. The force has 43 officers and 6 civilian employees. The department is separated into 3 divisions Patrol, Detective and Administration, with Charles Phelps as current Police Chief. The department moved to its current location in 1995.

- Troy is home to the famous Strawberry Festival which takes place in early June.
- Troy is home of the Guinness World Record for the largest strawberry shortcake.
- Troy High School has a legendary rivalry with Piqua High School in Piqua, OH, just north of Troy.
