[edit] Discussion

There is a line in the article that says,' According to some, confirmation that Troy's sacking was influenced by sponsorship pressure rather than any performance based reasons was seen in the appointment of Carlos Checa as Troy's replacement' the part, 'according to some' was not part of the article until recently and i can assure whomever wrote that that it is not just 'some' people who may think that is the reason troy was replaced, but troy said that himself. I was there at Phillip Island in 2004 to hear Troy tell a gathering of Flaggies after the race that he figured he would probably be replaced by someone who has had an association with Marlboro in the past, and sure enough, Carlos Checa was just the man, having ridden for Marlboro Yamaha in previous seasons. There is no favour being paid to Troy to make him appear a martyr, but that is the real reason he was replaced.

Also, how could you sum up a guys season by saying that Ducati's axeing of Troy looked more logical when he missed the last 6 races because of injury, that is just plain kicking a guy when he's down? It might be worth mentioning that Troy was only 5 points behind Carlos Checa in the Championship ladder after the Czech round, it wasnt as though Carlos was setting the world on fire riding that ducati.

Troy was on a Honda though - three of those beat the highest-placed Ducati in the championship. If you can source Troy's comments, please do - otherwise they are pure speculation. At least there is now a second part of that paragraph providing another logical view.--MartinUK 12:37, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
