"The court order only affected a domain owned by the German Verein." Looks like that should be version or maybe chapter.


there is also a typo in the reference to: "Deutschland e.V." - the link is not valid. (should this only be wikimedia.de?) -- -fin

Verein is a German word for "club" or "association." ([1]) e.V. stands for "Eingetragener Verein", or "registered club." --PCjabber (T | C) 21:50, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Today the court's ruling was published. An English language press article (among many) is here. The original press release by the court is here.

I apologize for not updating the article myself, mainly because it would take me too long right now to do it properly - look up the correct translations of the legal terms, etc - and also because I feel I am too involved in the discussions on de: to be the right person to do this. However, I think I am summarizing the media reports accurately in saying that the verdict means a full victory for Wikimedia Deutschland e.V.; the judge denied that mentioning the full surname would violate either Tron's post-mortal personality rights (? "Postmortales Persönlichkeitsrecht") or his parent's personality rights. This was the view held by more or less all the legal experts who had commented publicly on the case, except the plaintiff's lawyer of course. According to this Associated Press report (German) he was furious about the ruling, storming out of the courtroom even before the verdict was read out. I support the rename. I saw a bunch of discussion at the time of his death and it all referred to him by name (though often misspelled as "Floriciz" for some reason). Here is a good Usenet post from Markus Kuhn, a security researcher who knew Floricic, saying a few things about him. Maybe some of it could be incorporated into the article. Further I'd like to say I followed some of the discussion when BF died/was killed six years ago and that discussion always used his (sometimes misspelled) real name. I might have heard the "Tron" nickname before but I wouldn't have remembered it. If I were looking for info about him on WP, it wouldn't have occurred to me to look under "Tron". This guy has notable under his real name all this time, not just as a result of the current litigation. Phr 14:12, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

However important the WP lawsuit may have been, the ostensible subject of this article was dead by the time it was initiated. I'm surprised that it seems to receive more detailed attention than does anything else here. Actually I'd be inclined to class it as "trivia", though for all I know it might fit well within an article on WP-related lawsuits. -- Hoary 06:33, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Beyond what most people have read or heard about Tron, I know a little more. The suicide/homicide debate is still on-going as far as I know. The CCC wanted little to do with it and referred the matter to police investigation but, those who knew Tron better, knew better. No suicide. I have recorded logs and other information to present but, I'm not sure exactly how to present it and I'm sure some retard would delete it anyway as a conspiracy theory. But, the fact does stand I do have solid information deeper detailing the events surrounding Tron's death. If anyone would like to know about it or assist in presenting it, let me know. Thanks.

I made this change to add the word physical because when I first read the sentence, I assumed it meant he'd been charged for misusing phone services. It was only when I read the article I realise what it meant. Rereading the sentence, it does suggest it was the physical theft of a phone but I think adding physical will avoid further confusion Nil Einne 12:48, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

It's a couple of years later and we have some distance. I went through and changed most mentions of the subject from "Tron" to "Floricic", because this is a biography article. It is absurd to say "Tron grew up in Gropiusstadt..." when Tron was just a nom de guerre. Tempshill (talk) 17:04, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
