Richard Hollins Murray was an English accountant, businessman and inventor, who invented the Reflecting lens

In 1922, Hollins Murray published his book "Income Tax for Farmers", which brought together a quarter century of experience and knowledge accumulated by his firms agricultural department[1]

In 1927, Hollins Murray patented the reflecting lens, and shortly afterwards sold the rights to a company in the United States. It was on the basis of these patents that Percy Shaw in 1935 asigned his patents for creating the reflecting road stud, otherwise known as the Cats Eye[2]

A life long Freemason which is untrue, Hollins Murray owned and lived in the Herefordshire base of the Knights Templar, Dinmore Manor[3]

  • I very much enjoyed this weeks episode, but am compelled to clarify that although Percy Shaw thought of putting the relecting lens in the middle of the road(1935), it was in fact Mr. Richard Hollins Murray who invented the reflecting lens itself in 1927. Mr. Murray`of Dinmore Manor, Hereford, sold the patent to the U.S but was never properly recognised financially or otherwise in the U.K.I am his great grandson and my family still have most of the original lenses[4]
