[edit] Biography

Trude was born to parents parents Leif and Tordis Mostue near a lake called Bindingsvann in Ski, Norway. She has two sisters, Hilde and Lene. She had the desire to become a veterinary surgeon since she was a child, and set out to pass all the exams she needed to get into vet school, passing her last A-level in 1987. During the next three years Trude gained some practical experience, first becoming a herds-woman to 125 Norwegian Red dairy cattle near Oslo, then working in a research centre studying pigs' semen. This was followed by a year spent working as a combination of receptionist, assistant veterinary nurse, cleaner and general handy-woman in a small-animal practice in Oslo.

Finally, sponsored by the Norwegian Veterinary College, Trude traveled to England in 1991 to study at Bristol University. Her English was very basic, so she had to cope with learning the language in addition to her medical studies. Between her third and fourth year she returned briefly to Norway, where she spent two months working as a milkmaid for 400 goats in the beautiful fjord country and making cheese for tourists. She then returned to England to face the last two years of studying.

Trude struggled the whole way through the five-year course, but her sheer determination and stubbornness enabled her to succeed. It had originally been Trude's intention to return to Norway after qualifying, but she decided to stay in England instead. It was during Trude's last year at university that the BBC arrived to film their docu-soap "Vets' School" and she was one of several students who agreed to appear in the series. It proved a huge hit with British viewers, spawning the long running sequel "Vets in Practice" and transforming Trude and her colleagues into celebrities. For six years the cameras followed her through the highs and lows of her professional and private life.

[edit] Input2

The UK’s favourite Scandinavian Vet - Trude burst onto screens back in 1996 as the BBC followed her and her fellow students at Bristol School of Veterinary Science as they worked for their degrees. The success of this first series Vet School – BBC1 was followed by ten series of ‘Vets in Practice’ which ran through to 2001, transmitted on BBC1. This series had various spin off programmes that Trude presented:-

Vets in the Wild, tx BBC1. Vets in the Wild West, tx BBC1. Vets to the Rescue, tx BBC1. Vets in the Country, tx BBC1. She also presented a documentary for the Natural History Department of the BBC called ‘Desperately Seeking’ tx BBC1. Autumn 2005 sees Trude appearing on our screens as the resident Vet in Discovery/Animal Planets latest series of ‘Britain’s Worst Pet’.

Trude’s bubbly personality and enthusiasm for life resulted in her being asked to film three items for BBC 1’s ‘Holiday programme, looking at holidays in such diverse locations as Botswana, her Native Norway[3] and the UK. She also became the occasional guest Vet on ‘Live & Kicking’ and ‘The Really Useful Show’ both tx on BBC1. During this period she also found time to make guest appearances on The ‘So Graham Norton Show tx Ch4, The Big Breakfast, tx CH4.

She showed us all her versatility when she sang and danced for Children in Need in 2004. That same year she went to Mozambique to film with Graham Norton for Comic Relief.

It has to be said that whilst this very full and varied filming work was happening Trude was starting along the path of her first love as a practicing Vet.working first in Bristol, then in Frome, Somerset. She then set up in partnership with her friend Maria Lowe a fellow Scandinavian from the TV Series. The girls called the practice ‘Viking Vets’, sadly they were only able to practice together for a year, as Trude’s busy filming and writing commitments made it impossible for her to commit to the hours needed in a busy veterinary practice. So reluctantly she had to resign.

Trude has three published books to date. ‘Wild about Animals’ & ‘Pets in Practice’ both published by Andre Deutch. ‘Vets in the Wild’ published by Box Tree. For the last three years she has been writing a weekly column for a Norwegian Daily Newspaper called VG. She has also contributed to the ‘Pet Slot’ in Sainsbury’s Magazine, also in the ‘Star Pets’ section of The Western Daily and Scottish Sunday Mail.

Trude currently lives in the West Country with her Partner, three young children with their menagerie of pets, and is in the process of setting up The Mostue Veterinary Practice and the Mostue Kennels & Catteries due to open in March 2006. As if all this was not enough, she is also about to start a PhD on Feline Viruses - A busy lady indeed!
