[edit] Theatre Arts - 101 - Intro to Theatre Arts
At Trinity Academy of Raleigh the Theatre Arts-101 course is offered for grades 7-12. It was first introduced to the Trinity curriculum in the 2006-2007 school year. In this class students are taught the basics of dramatic performance on stage.
[edit] Theatre Arts - 102 - The Art & Science of Theatre
The Theatre Arts course is for grades 9-12. One of the two plays produced annually is a Shakespeare play. Some Shakespearian plays that the Trinity upper school has produced in the past are The Taming of the Shrew, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, Twelfth Night, A Midsummer Night's Dream, As You Like It, and Love's Labour's Lost. In 2007, they perform Much Ado about Nothing. Once a year a show called Evening with the Playwrights is performed and directed by 9-12 grade students. For this performance three different one-act plays are prepared. In the year of 2008, Trinity Academy performed the play [[Spitfire Grill]].Spitfire Grill was the first non-Shakespearian play Trinity has done. This play was about a young lady, Percy Talbott, who came to a town called Gilead. Before she came to Gilead, she was a in prison for killing her father. Spitfire Grill was a happy place when Eli, Hannah Ferguson's son, was there. Then he went to war and everybody missed him...but they prayed. Eli was scared and came back, but Hannah did not want anyone to know, so she made him live out in the great forest of Gilead. Percy started working at Spitfire Grill.Spitfire Grill was the only place to eat in town and everyone who came was not wery thankful for where they were and especially not thankful for a criminal coming to there town.Hannah Ferguson, the owner of Spitfire Grill, wanted to sell the Grill, so she put it up for "auction". Everyone who wanted it had to send in a letter and give $100. They started getting a whole lot of mail from the Effy, the mailwoman. Joe Sperling, the policeman, liked Percy and asked her to marry him, but she turned him down.Every night at the Grill, Percy left out bread with in axe next to it in a stump for Eli. Percy finally met Eli and brought him in to Hannah, but she shunned him out and became very mad at Percy. Hannah later forgave Paercy and Eli, but then she let Eli in at last.Percy came to this town, Gilead, and made a difference, she went with happiness and brought joy, whiched changed people hearts and brought them closer together.
[edit] Academics of Trinity Academy
Trinity Academy of Raleigh offers classical education with a Christian- based atmosphere where students and teachers can work together in the classroom. It uniquely offers students many different classes and programs. Humanities is one main course; it is a combination of history, writing, literature and grammar designed to challenge students to think "outside the box." Forum, Dialogue, and Religious Studies teach the students how to debate and feel confident in their faith. Latin is also one of the unique aspects of the school; it is a two year class that is required to graduate from Trinity.
[edit] College Preparation
One of many goals of Trinity Academy is to prepare its students for college. Its program of study seeks to develop high school students who can integrate their Christian world view with the modern world, think critically, and set goals for the future. With these objectives in mind, it intends to help pave the way for a successful college career.
[edit] Student Discipline
Students need discipline to chase ideas and impact our society. One example of academic discipline at Trinity is the method of essay writing revision in the humanities classes. Students will be regularly engaged in producing essays on historical and literary topics. Student will receive individual attention and each essay and require several editions until a final draft is deemed acceptable. The rigor of the revision process will promote essential thinking and writing skills. Creativity will be fostered through a particular interdisciplinary project in the Humanities course. The project will weave a historical focus into fine arts, natural science and mathematics, or humanities and social science. Each student will be immersed in a specific topic that is of interest to him or her. Background research will begin in the fall and will culminate in the spring with a research paper and/or project.
[edit] The Mission of Trinity Academy of Raleigh
"The mission of Trinity Academy is to equip students to live with wisdom, excellence, and a purpose in the modern world by offering an education grounded in classical tradition and the Christian faith. The Trinity difference: Trinity Academy is a community of faith and learning, emphasizing the classical liberal arts and sciences. It is a college preparatory school, but much more than that. As a community of parents and educators who have experienced less than satisfied educational options for themselves and their children, we believe they have crafted a K-12 educational experience that prepares their students for life. We at Trinity Academy believe that the best education develops the ability to think critically and the skills to communicate effectively. The process begins in kindergarten and continues through graduation. A multi-year humanities course in the middle and upper school integrates the study of history, literature, and theology. Strong math and science requirements and the study of Latin and modern languages complete our core curriculum. The time-tested classical program of study is the strongest possible college preparatory program for students at all levels of ability and achievement. Trinity Academy graduates are currently in residence at some of the best schools in the southeast, including Duke University, UNC Chapel Hill, N.C. State, Virginia Tech, and the College of William and Mary ."
