- This is a Vietnamese name; the family name is Trịnh, but is often simplified as Trinh in English-language text. According to Vietnamese custom, this person properly should be referred to by the given name Xuân Thuận.
Prof Trinh, Xuan Thuan (born 1948 in Hanoi, Vietnam) has been a professor of astronomy at the University of Virginia since 1976 and is one of the founding members of the International Society for Science and Religion. He is an astrophysicist whose research focuses on extragalactic astronomy. He has written many articles on galaxy formation and evolution.
He is the author of several books for the general public including The Birth of the Universe (1993) and The Secret Melody (1994). His latest book Chaos and Harmony, a best-seller in France, was published in English in 2000.
