Triethyloxonium tetrafluoroborate is a chemical compound with the formula [(C2H5)3O]+[BF4]-.
It is a powerful ethylating agent used in chemical synthesis. One of the three ethyl groups is readily transferred to a nucleophile It is used for esterification of acids. When proteins are treated with this reagent, carboxyl residues are ethylated.
