Tri-Cities (British Columbia)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tri-Cities is an informal term used to describe three adjacent suburban cities (and two villages) in the north-east sector of the Vancouver, British Columbia metropolitan area. Combined, these five communities have a 2005 population of 210,390 residents[1]:

Municipality Type Population
Anmore village 1,673
Belcarra village 723
Coquitlam city 121,973
Port Coquitlam city 57,563
Port Moody city 28,458

[edit] Other terms

Local residents also refer to the Tri-Cities as "District 43", after the public school district that serves this area. This is to avoid confusion with the cities of Richland, Pasco, and Kennewick in south-eastern Washington state, which are also known as the "Tri-Cities". The three Canadian city names are also sometimes conflated into "PoCoMo", especially since there is also a Como Lake in Coquitlam.

[edit] Media

The Tri-Cities area has access to a wide variety of media available in the Lower Mainland. Several community newspapers provide local coverage, including the Coquitlam Now and the Tri-City News.
