TrID is an utility designed to identify file types from their binary signatures. It is extensible and can be trained to recognize new formats in a fast and automatic way. TrID uses a database of definitions which describe recurring patterns for supported file types. The database of definitions can be expanded by writing new file format definition XML files, aided by the TrIDScan utility.
The original version is a command line utility, but there is also a GUI version called TrIDNet.
