[edit] When is it set?

Could somebody who's read this recently flesh it out a little more, more details: i.e. roughly when is it set, does it cover much of the political backround, what is the point of divergence etc. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.157.1.87 (talk) 00:45, 27 February 2007 (UTC).

  • The book seems to be set in the immediate post-Reagan era, as it refers to the President continuing on with a predecessor's philosophy of pushing the Soviets to the wall and straining their economy. It also makes reference to "the liberal Carters, and the dilettante Kennedy's with their first-step treaties". However, at the President's inauguration, the comment is made that the President really didn't like his immediate predecessor (maybe Mondale or Hart got elected in 1984 in this history). 147.145.40.43 19:45, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
