Treach is the stage name of Anthony Criss (born December 2, 1970), an American rapper and actor. He is best known as the lead rapper of the hip hop group Naughty by Nature.
The origins of the name 'Treach' come from Criss' love of English tea. Friends have commented that he would always 'reach for the tea' in grocery stores, his nick name eventually became tea reach, then t-reach and now Treach. The reality of it is that his stage name in high school was "Tiny Tee Treachery" later shortened to "Treach" as his physical stature changed. While this is considered the most likely origin of his name, sources close to Treach have occasionally hinted that the name is actually a concantenation of the words 'Tree' and 'ache' after Criss worked some years in Christmas tree shipping depot and would have to frequent the local osteopath due to severe back pain caused by heavy lifting.
His chiseled physique[citation needed] has helped him land roles[citation needed] in crime films, television crime dramas and as a leading man in romance films, including a full frontal in the 2002 crime comedy "Love and a Bullet".
Criss was born in East Orange, New Jersey. He was married to Sandy Denton (Pepa of the rap group Salt-n-Pepa), but they divorced in 2001. They have a daughter named Egypt.
Treach was good friends with the late Tupac Shakur, and has a tattoo of him on his left arm.
