I was going to add this:
- It is currently used by Russian Aircraft Corporation to perform test flights and acceptance flights of all aircraft produced by the Mikoyan design company. A manufacturing facility here produced the Il-28 tactical bombers and the MiG-23 / MiG-27 family of strike aircraft. At present, the complex is responsible for production of MiG-29 fighters.
I wrote that up because of the webpage http://www.migavia.ru/eng/corporation/?tid=2&id=5 which says:
- The Lukhovitsy Aircraft Production and Test Complex is a high-capacity facility provided with up-to-date equipment which manufactured the IL-28 tactical bombers and the MiG-23 / MiG-27 family fighter/strike aircraft. At present, the Complex is responsible for production of MiG-29 fighters. In accordance with the existing RAC "MiG" development and restructuring plan, the Complex will carry out final assembly of the Tu-334 airliner, the MiG-29K/KUB carrier-based fighters and the Ka-60/62 helicopters. Lead-in conversion programs at the Lukhovitsy Aircraft Production and Test Complex include series production of several light civil aircraft ranging from the Aviatika-MAI-890/890SKh ultralight aircraft to the IL-103 four-seat utility aircraft. Besides, the Complex produces unique composite materials used in the aircraft industry. The Lukhovitsy Aircraft Production and Test Complex includes the Tretyakovo airfield facility established to perform test flights and acceptance flights of all aircraft produced by the RAC "MiG".
However looking at the satellite imagery on Google Earth, which probably dates to about 2000, I am doubtful there is any aircraft production taking place here. I think we need someone with more experience than myself to judge the issue. Maybe the article refers to a Lukhovitsy that uses the town name only by coincidence. -Timvasquez 03:40, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] MiG-29 production flight test airfield at Lukhovitsy
I spent a few days in November 1997 flying MiG-29UB aircraft at this airfield while undergoing training as a test pilot in England. It was a three-hour drive southeast on poor roads from our hotel in Moscow. The airfield had perhaps a couple dozen MiG-29s parked outdoors. I don't recall that there was any factory on the field, or any particularly large buildings or hangars. We downloaded our flight data from the aircraft after flights and analysed it on site in a modest office building dedicated to production flight test. (I remember a small lounge in that building as well, with no shortage of vodka and cognac.)
