Transwede Airways AB is a charter airline based at Gothenburg-Landvetter Airport, Sweden. Transwede operates flights on wet lease agreements from London City Airport, as well as charter flights. The company is owned by Braathens Aviation. Transwede Airways has appointed a new CEO, Trygve Gjertsen, who started January 1, 2007, taking over Jimmie Bergqvist.
The inaugural flight from Stockholm-Arlanda Airport to London City Airport, numbered SK517, took place on February 13, 2006, under Scandinavian Airlines colors. This has given place to two daily flights, numbered SK517/518 and SK529/530, with the new Transwede livery, which is a variation of Malmö's, as can be seen from Airliners.
The title Transwede has already been in use before: the old Transwede had been set up by Thomas Johansson in 1985 until 1998, when the airline was restructured and changed its name to Blue Scandinavia (TUIfly Nordic since May 2006) before being incorporated into Britannia, the remains being integrated by Per G. Braathen in Malmö Aviation and Braathens airlines. The old airline flew aircraft types ranging from Caravelles, Fokker F28s, F70s, F100s, Boeing 737s and 757s, McDonnell Douglas MD-80s and MD-90s, and Lockheed L-1011 TriStars for charter flights.Airfleets
The Norwegian Trygve Gjertsen has been the Chief Executive of the Norwegian Postal services for the last two years, but he has already been in the airline industry with Braathens and SAS.
