Transmission (telecommunications)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In telecommunications, transmission is the forwarding of signal traffic over distances that are too great to be simply connected by a twisted pair cable. Techniques available now may be microwave link, satellite link, coaxial cable or optical fiber. Most modern transmission is digital. Examples of analog transmission are AM and FM radio.

In general information theory transmission is taken to mean the complete process of communication of information via a channel.
