Transalpine Redemptorist
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Transalpine Redemptorists are a religious order based in Papa Stronsay in the Orkney Islands, Scotland. Their rule is based on that of the St. Alphonsus Liguori, but they are not linked to the hierarchy of the Redemptorist order. Although, they are affiliated with the traditionalist Catholic Society of St. Pius X, which rejects and condemns certain policies of the Holy See, they have announced on their blog that they are in talks with the Ecclesia Dei Commission.
Originally based in Joinville, France, they moved to the Isle of Sheppey in Kent before moving to their present location in 1999 after purchasing the island from its previous owners. The Transalpine Redemptorists operate the Golgotha Monastery on the island, and publish "The Catholic".
The order has just began another monastery in the city of Christchurch in New Zealand.
